Rujum is a 'stone pile' or 'stone cairn' in Arabic as well as in modern Hebrew, symbolising balance, harmony and serenity. Rujum have been used from prehistoric to present times for abroad variety of purposes as landmarks, for burial mounds and walls. Rujum expresses the symbolic nature of the circle and an expression of eternity : “The circle is a symbol of equality. Every point in the circle is equidistant from its centre”. The Nabataeans would use Rujum for navigation along the Silk Road.

In the furniture piece Rujum, different heights are used to represent the urban nature of the Casbah, where the highest point at the top of the hill is used as a watchtower, symbolising a safe place.

Bespoke made Chandelier for private residential

A bespoke lighting project for a new twenty four storey building on Rothschild Boulevard, one of Tel Aviv's most prominent and beautiful streets. The installation is divided into two lights each measures 11 meters long by 5.5 meters wide,
and is housed in the modern glass atrium rising to an impressive 20 meters high.

"A spectrum (plural spectra or spectrums) is a condition that is not limited to a specific set of values but can vary infinitely within a continuum".

Kukka is inspired by reflection and refraction, absorbent and repellent. The studio’s continuous interest to create a timeless dialogue from past to future through presently active living, has been expressed in its current work, ‘Spectra’, using Dichroic finished glass as a dominant material.

The environment we live in is affected by a spectrum of different conditions. Kukka chose to use Dichroic glass to help express the significant conditions affected by light and time, reflection and refraction. Similar to the social behavior expressed through social media channels and the internet: absorbing and repelling, yet the glass, a modern material used since the Roman empire, has its own structural, solid properties.

The quartz is an abundant mineral in earth. The slabs are solid, reflecting physical, stable and timeless design.

Under the theme the Casbah, Designers in the Middle presents Stream of Consciousness, shaped organically by flexible thinking, by tolerance and by trust. Our stream of consciousness, a group brain storm, reflects commonality on the same cerebral highway, inspired by the heritage of the Levant, as well as multiple life experiences the region of the Middle East has to offer. A collective interior monologue can be heard through the free-thinking visual narratives - that of nomadism, craft, tradition and diversity. 
A Casbah is an “Old City”, enclosed, walled, where citizens meet to work, to do business, to trade and to play, and where nomadic storytelling is told and where playing together creates a dialogue, stimulates the mind, and sees similar spoken languages using similar codes. 
Boundaries and walls were not conceived for artists, designers and makers, and can create limitations. Our cast has had to work remotely, but in unison, because of the nature of Designers in the Middle, and all have been inspired and challenged by an unfamiliar material and a limit on material, as part of the process

Our Casbah exists within a world experiencing dynamic shift, and which forms a new global paradigm.

OD stands for Outside Diameter of the circle screen. 
Inspired by the principal "Form Follows Function"; their structure consists of two dimensional geometric shapes that allows soft light to escape from behind the circle screen creating a three dimensional object.

A custom made ceiling light for a private residential project in Ramat Hasharon, Israel. 

Illuminating 2700K warm white LED,  380cm long, Powder coated RAL 9011

We were commissioned by Fresh Paint organizers and the British Council to create a seating area for Fresh Paint 9 art and design fair March 2017.

Positioned in the Natural History museum amphitheater; the installaiton is composed of 108 blocks of cork spread over and area of 50sqm.

"We were inspired by the architectural topography of the Natural History museum building and the topography found in nature.
it was important for us to use natural and sustainable material such as Cork. Working with Cork; inspired us to use the raw material from the Amorim factory and to create a large, communal, playful seating area"

The side table shape, meaures 75 x 40, is inspired from mining methods in a quarry
the stone results in a chiseled edge. The designer used reclaimed Caesarstone Quartz surface 1141 for the table top using CNC machine and than it is polished by hand and the metal legs are hand turned.

A range of wall mounted shelves and coordinating containers, offering the home a simple geometry with a splash of colour.

Made from metal and therefore magnetic, the wall mounted shelves - available in landscape and portarait form - are folded and powder coated in different colours on both sides - Silfur yellow and pure white, while the triangle containers are offcuts which are also folded and double sided poder coated - Signal blue and dark blue or tomatoe red and wine red.

All pieces from the Ridges collection are laser cut and created using folding machinary; no welds or mechanical fixings are involved in the manufacturing procesas. the pieces are sold as a set, each comprising a wall mounted shelf and a container.

Spectra concept was first presented during Salone del Mobile 2016 in Frame magazine exhibition “Phygital”. Rona has developed different collection ofproducts under the title spectra: Tables, Stools, partition wall, table top containers and blinds.

The blinds are expressing the passage between two situations; forming an infinity - Spectrum.

A traditional lamp made from traditional materials and assembled by hand, suitable for the home as much as the office6 screws, 7 beech wood pieces, lamp holder and cable are all it takes to create the refined and elegant ready-made DIY lamp. No finish is applied, so the DIY can be painted, lacquered, sanded or left to naturally darken with age.

The designer was inspired by her last commission collaboration with Caesarstone, having been working with the actual material at the Caesarstone factory and following the production 
experience of the Balata ruler, Rona noticed that each and every date a whole skip full of wasted material was being thrown away.The mirror base is sourced from our local manufacturer
and is made from a reclaimed Caesarstone material off cuts.  The mirror simply sits inside the base slot and can be easily removed

Cubo is a sustainable light using low voltage LED source, made from FSC beech wood, finished with Danish oil. Cubo is an extension to the Blocks range, a small light performing soft warm white spot light. The playful front metal ring comes in a selection of different colours. Thanks to this, the Cubo can fit in different interiors such as children’s rooms, living rooms, working areas and so on.

Cubo is designed to be hung onto the wall – the light can be pointing upwards, downwards or even at an angle. It can be placed on a table, a shelve and even on the floor. It is safe to the touch and will fit into your hand palm.

Blocks are a set of wooden blocks for the office, to hold everything from pens to post-its. 

They were inspired by Rona’s children playing, when they were making towers from wooden blocks. Made from natural beech wood, no finish is applied to allow the blocks to darken naturally with age.

Rona Meyuchas-Koblenz leads a discussion on design in the Middle East at 100% Design

As part of this year’s 100% Design talks programme during the London Design Festival, Rona Meyuchas-Koblenz, founder and creative director of Kukka, will present a panel discussion that examines the experience of designing in or from the Middle East – titled ‘Designers in the Middle’ – on Saturday 24 September 2016 (11am).

Chaired by Suzanne Trocmé, Editor at Large for Wallpaper*, Rona will be joined by an expert panel, including Israeli designer Hagit Pincovici and Lebanese architect Annabel Karim Kassar, to explore how the region’s craft, heritage, daily life and political and industrial reality affect the work and lives of its designers.

‘Designers in the Middle’ forms part of the 100% Design talks programme that has been curated by the Design Museum as part of its ‘on loan’ campaign, which aims to bring the museum out into the world and the design community. The talks programme will be hosted in the auditorium at 100% Design.

Rona Meyuchas Koblenz established Kukka in 2010, to create products that are designed and made from sustainable materials and cultural behaviours.

Rona  was invited by Alexander Von Vegesack, founder of Domaine de Boisbuchet and founder of Vitra museum in France to host a week long design workshop in Boisbuchet in August 2016

At the workshop, a group of Ten participants were given 100% sustainable and renewable cork – supplied by Amorim, as a primary material ­– to create sustainable lanterns that operate on wind and solar power.

Meyuchas-Koblenz says, “I was inspired by the woodlands which remind me of a dark fairyland; they have their own natural resources to produce light, such as fungus and fireflies.

 “The participants were encouraged to work together and help bring light to the woods. I wanted them to observe, listen and learn how it felt to be surrounded by this incredible nature. I worked a lot around associations and subtitled the workshop: Breadcrumb navigation. The idea was that each participant will be able to create its own lantern and express himself but at the same time they needed to bear in mind they are part of a group and the end result is a long, illuminated path”  

The workshop was attended by design enthusiasts from around the world, including Dubai, Taiwan, Spain, USA, Peru, Japan and Lithuania. They all brought their individual talent and cultural background into the discussion and work that took place outdoors throughout. Over the duration of the workshop, the group exchanged ideas and collaborated in the tranquility of the countryside, demonstrating a strong sense of togetherness and teamwork.

Cork was chosen as the primary material because of its naturalness, versatility and sustainability. It is a raw material that is easy to work with and can be used in many different ways offering endless opportunities. Cork comes in different shapes and layers enabling the participants to cut and mould differently. Weighing just 0.16 grams per cubic centimetre, the material is very light thus can float on water. What’s more it’s naturally fire retardant therefore it can hold against fire – as demonstrated by the group when the participants used cork to build a metre long floating device and set it on fire before letting it sail in the river.

A set of three house-shaped clothes hangers. They will look great individually, in a group or even scattered inside a space. Traditionally crafted from maple wood with no glue and finished with linseed oil, which will allow the product to naturally darken with age.

A simple lampshade made from non-woven flame-proof Nomex fabric and snap fasteners, to be mounted directly onto a suspended light bulb. It can then be shaped gently by hand, and several Feluccas can also be assembled to create a larger lampshade. Once mounted, the Felucca casts a soft, smooth and elegant light.
